Vandana Shiva

In this series of interviews, organic farmer, food activist, author, and scientist Vandana Shiva talks about genetic engineering, monoculture farming, and the struggles of third-world farmers that are pushed into industrial farming, and incurring debt.

Originally filmed in 2009, much of what Vandana Shiva discusses is still true as of 2014. Most of the genetic engineered crops contain just two features, one, an ability to withstand the use of a powerful herbicide (Roundup) to kill weeds, and the other, plants that are engineered to produce their own toxin to ward off pests (BT Toxin).

Some of what Dr. Shiva discusses, for example world hunger is more geared to developing nations, the U.S. has a growing hunger problem and that’s has to do with poverty, as well.
