Bird Houses: Using Nature to Control a Farm Pest

Jon Bansen, a third-generation dairy farmer, demonstrates one of his techniques for using nature to control his fly populations. For those who may be so inclined, here are instructions on how to make your own bird house.

    Love it! Who needs pesticides when Nature has already provided clean, natural & inexpensive methods for pest control. There’s an organic raspberry farm in in Corrales, New Mexico that uses a flock of native Rio Grande turkeys control the insect population:

    Great story, great advice! I love the tip using cedar shavings in the houses. We have swallow nests in our barn, but never thought of putting houses out in the pasture. I know the vineyards use owl boxes to organically control rodents too.
