Harvesting Seaweed

A delightful short film out of France.

Directed, shot and edited by Ignacio Lantero, we are transported to the ocean shoreline to watch Cristelle Maine harvesting seaweed.

There’s quite a variety of flavors and textures of wild seaweed not found in other foods. Unlike wild mushrooms, there are no natively poisonous species according to Maine. As long as there’s not other factors like algae blooms or contaminated spills, the seaweed should be safe to eat.

Ah, the limits of video. From the harvest, the ingredients are dried and added to a tart pie. Just as the finished seaweed tart is pulled out of the oven, steamy and looking delicious, the video ends.

I wanted a taste!

About their film project: “In the fall of 2011, The Making-Of was established as an independent food & film project by Constanze v. Hartmann and Ignacio Lantero.”
