Leaving NFL Football to Be a Farmer

It’s not often you hear of someone giving up a multi-million dollar NFL career to become a farmer. Talk about ‘field of dreams’.

In this short CBS News “On The Road” segment, Jason Brown, “one of the best centers in the NFL” walked away from a $37 million dollar contract to live a farming life in Franklin County, North Carolina.

On his 1000 acres farm, he has already donated 10,000 pounds of cucumbers and 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes to help feed the needy in his community. He plans to keep donating more.

I haven’t watched CBS News in many years and even longer when Charles Kuralt (who I adored) was the “on The Road” correspondent from 1967 to 1987. Steve Hartman has done a nice job with this piece and holding the mantle for the legendary series, I think Mr. Kuralt would be pleased.

Just couldn’t resist, from one of the best in the human interest story business who ever lived:

Makin Molassis (1972)
