Farmer Don Wachlin of Schlichting Farms was quite a character.
In October of 2010 around the halloween season, we filmed one last time at his farm. Don had built a pumpkin shooting canon, and each year around this holiday, he would invite the public in to shoot small pumpkins at the retired school bus. He would give out $5 prizes for anyone who actually hit the bus about 375 feet away. Though not too many people did, Rebecca filmed part of the story from the inside of it, as the firing commenced. I remember Don shaking his head at Rebecca as she headed off toward the bus, he thought she was she was going into combat. Don was seated by the pneumatic controls as he watched both children and adults load the canon, and then he would press the button to fire the shot. He was having as much fun as those in the audience. A really lovely man.
Below are a few unpublished pictures from that day. The original video story can be found here: Halloween Fun: Shooting Pumpkins at an Old School Bus These are the other videos we had the pleasure to film over the years with Farmer Don.
