James Beard in Oregon

January 13, 2011 Get your party hats and glasses ready – there’s going to be a celebration! Prior to the announcement of this years James Beard Foundation Award nominations, there will be a gala event, in Portland, Oregon, to raise funds for the Oregon Culinary Institute. James Beard, a Portland, Oregon native, treasured good fresh food and loved to cook and eat.

“He was a tireless traveler, bringing his message of good food, honestly prepared with fresh, wholesome, American ingredients, to a country just becoming aware of its own culinary heritage.” -James Beard Foundation

The OPB video below celebrates James Beard’s life, his passion for local, fresh food, and gives you an idea how his roots in Oregon food, agriculture, and seafood gave way to the “dean of American cookery”.
