Preserving and Canning Food with Friends, new DVD

March 25, 2011 Canning and preserving food had nearly become a lost art in the kitchen by the turn of the recent century. For many, time spent in the kitchen became less as work and family demanded more time. Convenience became de rigueur. If there was a food item you wanted, you went to the store to buy it. Can it yourself? Who has the time?!

As people are becoming more aware of their food – where it was grown, what is its season, and how did it get to my plate – more are returning to the art of food preservation. Thankfully there are a handful of people who never stopped and/or dived back into the art of canning and preserving food themselves. Four of these people came together to share their knowledge and show you the steps it takes to can, pickle, dry, and store fresh food in the recently released DVD: Preserving with Friends. Sandor Ellix Katz, Marge Braker, and Linda Ziedrich join ‘urban householder’ Harriet Fasenfest as they put up the harvest.

All excellent in what they do, I’m sure this DVD will be a welcome addition to your pantry.
