Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?

March 04, 2011 Another great film by Portland-based filmmaker Taggart Siegel is about to hit the screen nationwide and Canada, starting today in 5 cities. Following on the heels of his widely acclaimed film, The Real Dirt on Farmer John, Siegel began working on Queen of the Sun in 2006. Documenting several beekeepers throughout the world, Taggart – along with producer and co-editor Jon Betz – not only shares their importance, their plight, but also inspires one to become a beekeeper also.

“Juxtaposing the catastrophic disappearance of bees with the mysterious world of the beehive, Queen of the Sun weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heart-felt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world. Featuring Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva, Queen of the Sun reveals both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.”

Highly recommended, check the screening schedule to see when it is coming to a theatre near you. Not showing in your city? Consider hosting a screening yourself!
