February 11, 2011 The TED talks have garnered a following and popularity throughout the world – many folks like to listen to passionate thinkers and doers who are on the cutting edge in their field, whether it be design, science, technology, global issues…they are “riveting talks by remarkable people.”
These talks have inspired other communities to host their own, which are called TEDx (x = independently organized TED event). One such event, TEDxManhattan, is happening tomorrow, February 12th, at the Prince George Ballroom. Often these events have a variety of individuals from the community speaking about a number of subjects, but this one is a little different. Tomorrow’s event is centered around the theme, “Changing the Way We Eat”. Over 20 knowledgeable people will be speaking on the subject of changing our food system from one dependent on industrial agriculture to “one in which healthy, nutritious food is accessible to all.”
Aren’t in NYC tomorrow? Not to worry! They will be livestreaming the event, which begins at 10:30a EST and goes all day until 6:00p EST. The agenda breaks the day down into 3 different sessions, so you can tune in for all or part.
Would rather participate with a group in your area while watching the livestream? The organizers, The Glynwood Institute for Sustainable Food and Farming have created the opportunity for viewing parties too, dedicating a page to cities who are hosting one locally. Check it out and meetup with others!
